League of Legends 2027: VCS opens wider doors, Vietnamese teams gain additional paths to international competition

Riot Games has announced a structural reform of the League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP) for 2027. The change is significant for Vietnamese teams because VCS teams will now have recurring chances to qualify for LCP slots at each stage of the season, rather than waiting for a single annual Promotion Series. Teams from PCS, VCS and LJL can all compete for promotion throughout the year, and the new model allows them to play at home before entering LCP stages. This reduces travel and operating costs, keeps players closer to family and fans, and creates more local engagement. The financial structure is also shifting. Existing LCP teams will keep receiving Regional GRP support, while teams that qualify for international events gain additional Global Event GRP. Riot wants revenue to be more closely tied to competitive performance, which rewards strong teams but also creates pressure on weaker incumbents. Wild Card paths remain, showing Riot still values regional diversity. However, more open access does not automatically mean higher competitive strength. The global ceiling of APAC teams remains below LCK and LPL. Riot has not yet revealed the number of slots or the exact format, so the real impact is still unknown. The reform is a meaningful step toward sustainability, but fans should separate opportunity from guaranteed success.
